A Howling Success

HUNGARY (OCN) — There is a scientific breakthru in Hungary that is nothing to bark at. Researchers from Eötvös Loránd University were able to develop a program that can identify the barks that dogs made.

So far, it was able to identify 43 percent of the barks and once perfected should become a valuable tool to law enforcements and soldiers overseas who tend to use dogs to locate bombs in buildings and along the roadside.

Is this new? Actually no! In 2002 a Japanese toy company called Takara developed Bowlingual which was a success and spawned a version for cats called Meowlingual.

Takara has since merged with their rival Tommy Co. so it will be interesting to see if the two will be keeping close eyes on the Hungarian researchers as they work to improve the program.
